Porto is one of the most beautiful European cities. It is divided by the Douro River and filled with colorful buildings with red-tiled roofs overlooking the river’s edge.

This city has a very rich history and its beauty is astonishing, almost unbelievable. Porto is famous for its river shipping culture and local dishes, which forms part of Porto’s rich history.

Similar to how street food is a major draw in some cities, Porto has street art. The streets of Porto are covered in hand-painted tiles, murals and beautiful drawings.

The city also has some outstanding architectural work, with big churches and amazing vantage points littered all over the city.

If you ever find yourself in Porto and you’re not sure where to visit to experience the culture of the city, you might want to consider the following:

  • The famous Porto Bridge Climb – this is not something that’s often thought of especially by visitors but if you can, climbing the Arrabida Bridge is an experience worth having.
  • Igreja de Sao Francisco – This is the beautiful St Francis Church. Here, visitors are shrouded by gold as they make their way into the church. The church has an 18th-century Baroque interior encrusted with gilded veneer so astonishing that you have to see it for yourself.
  • Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis (Soares dos Reis National Museum) – Site seeing in Porto is never complete without spending a couple of hours in this museum. This is one of the most prestigious museums in Europe and contains some of the best works of António Soares dos Reis.
